Since 2001, GRID Alternatives has installed more than 9,500 photovoltaic solar electric systems, helping low-income families save over $300M in energy cost savings over the 25 year lifespan of the solar energy systems. The systems are expected to offset over 820,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent to planting over 17M trees! GRID has also trained over 35,000 participants through their hands-on solar training program.
The Honnold Foundation continues to be inspired by GRID's commitment to sustainable energy and social equity, their job training program, and their proven model for building community engagement.
In September 2017, Alex Honnold joined the GRID team for a solar panel install on the roof of an elderly homeowner in Sacramento. GRID offers this same volunteer opportunity to anyone located near an install site who is eager to get involved. To volunteer for an upcoming solar install, contact GRID directly.
